Star Bar is at 113 Charles Street, Launceston, Tasmania 7250, in the middle of the Launceston CBD.

It is a few minutes walk from the Brisbane Street Mall, Civic Square, City Park and the Princess Theatre.

The bar is open seven days, 365 days a year. It opens at 11am and trades until late each night, public holidays included.

The kitchen serves lunch every day from 11am to 3pm, and dinner every day from 5pm to 8.30pm.

Some listings elsewhere still show a 7am weekend opening and a breakfast service. Both have been withdrawn. The venue opens at 11am, seven days.

Not for the bar, which is walk-in. A booking is recommended for the restaurant, especially on Friday and Saturday nights and on any night with live music.

There is street parking on Charles Street directly outside, and council car parks within a block in either direction.

Pub food with a Mediterranean lean: chicken parmigiana or schnitzel, the Star burger, steak off the grill, fish and chips, crumbed scallops, pasta, salads and gourmet pizza from the wood-fired oven installed in 1991. There are entrées, sides, a kids menu and desserts as well.

Yes. The restaurant page carries the venue's full counter menu with every price, current as of 6 August 2026, and those are the prices you pay at the table. That includes the weekly specials, Tuesday to Friday, which are listed by day with their prices. Prices listed for Star Bar on the delivery apps are set by those platforms and carry a mark-up on top, so they are higher than the menu.

The building was constructed in 1828 from convict brick, which makes it close to two hundred years old. Its heritage listed facade is still the front entrance.
